This guy! Very possibly the most I've ever enjoyed myself on a shoot. Keith Lemon arrives in character and it doesn't slip for a second, the same as when I shot Avid Merrion (his previous incarnation) a few years ago. Hilariously indiscreet, gloriously up for anything, he nailed the shots in about 3 minutes and the rest were just for fun. See it on pack in Tesco's. Shot in the lovely Studio Private in Shoreditch.

I was a punter at Wireless (not typical Tom) at 2pm on Saturday to see the opening act (again, rather unusually), the incredible Janelle Monae. She's so unbelievably awesome. Sorry to repost but I shot Janelle for Be Here Now last December when she supported Vampire Weekend and man, it was such a stunning peformance - just when you think you've seen the lot, someone comes along and cleans your glasses for you, then slaps you for being a cynic. I hope she becomes the biggest thing in music, just for having such style, energy, cool, flair...

It's happening for Janelle (at last)

Witness my chubby self making photo party with Black Lips in this well crafted edit. I don't remember the bubbles but there they are. Why you'd watch this when there's so much other stuff out there (I've never seen Citizen Kane, know what I mean?) but you won't know that til too late probably. See you at the Oscars or Cannes, ahem.

Jody McIntyre was pulled out of his wheelchair by police on the tuition fees protest. Jody eloquently, intelligently and I think hilariously spoke out about it and when I saw it live onBBC Breakfast at the time I dropped my Weetabix when he spoke of 'imperialism' to Bill Turnbull ('let's leave politics aside for the moment' - WTF?) I love what he did and he's now presenting some short political documentaries - Bars for Change for Windfall Films for Channel 4. An honour to meet Jody today.

Well you can if you like. The answer will be cos they were bloody good fun to shoot and had more vitality, vim and vigour than I'll ever enjoy. Seek them at Sutton Superbowl's Monday Club.

Welcome back The Kooks! Luke Kook sang beautifully and while it was good to see them again, it was even better to hear their new tunes and shoot them in this most intimate of settings - under a canopy in the courtyard at The Fly offices.

Reggae gallery uploaded

June 12, 2011

While I don't really like being retrospective, I just unearthed all my old reggae stuff and it does seem a shame for it to be sat on a hard drive and not online, so here you go. I had a brief stint of shooting every reggae artist I could in 2005-6, including 2 trips to JA, which was of course quite memorable for many reasons (some of which I'll tell you when I see you). Enjoy the gallery.

It could be argued I took the brief a tad too literally on this one, I know. However, for once it seemed to fit and Ernest's chillwave got the full backlit Elinchrom Octa treatment and deservedly so. Forthcoming in The Fly mag.

They're just a truly great band to shoot. Loads of ideas, up for direction, fun to be around, chuffin ace. More Black Lips please.

Extraordinary scenes at Ally Pally for the Swedish House Mafia show. A modern phenomenon - they're hugely popular, play the most banging house and feature huge live show production. Boom boom, ears ringing. The most up for it crowd I've seen in an age, especially for 2 a.m. on a Monday morning. As one might hope, they made for a strong before and after shot, of which more to come soon.

Pleased with the look and feel, plus we were pretty much locked in the dressing room alone waiting for them to finish their sell out gig at the lovely Bush Hall - which could only ever mean one thing. Sorry about the rider chaps.
