Thurston Moore for The Fly

FlyAwards__0001 copy_E.jpg

Photographed backstage at The Fly awards at The Forum last month, this total ledge came up to our makeshift studio and happily, amongst total chaos, noise and distraction, posed for this front cover like a beacon of serenity amid an ocean of barking sea lions. He was much warmer, giving and frankly happier thank I thought he might be (based on nothing at all) and I'm grateful for the exchange, especially given the circumstances. Shot on a Hasselblad, with Elinchrom lighting in a tight space with 15 people staring.

It's essential apparently to be on Instagram so I've leapt aboard this timesuck with loads of archive images and outtakes. Keener observers might notice a few shots they've seen before, but I've been digging in my crates for a hot minute and will unearth some gems I swear. They has to be some somewhere, honestly.

I mean, who else - right? This band are KILLING IT right now and I think this might well be the subtlest yet most direct portrait I've ever taken. Was there shooting a Be Here Now before and after shot with the band and they left their new freebie DMs in there with me while they played the show. I grabbed them and grabbed the shot. Simple, clean, straight, honest, punchy shot of some great artists.
